Ralph Hamers

Ralph Hamers over strategie en digitale transformatie binnen de financiële sector

De Jongste Compagnie van Verre (JCV) is the student association of Nyenrode Business University Amsterdam, and has been a member of the Royal IGC since 2021 with the aim of connecting students with IGC members and organizing joint events. In this context, a breakfast session will take place on May 20, with Ralph Hamers, former CEO of ING Group and UBS, as the keynote speaker. As an influential leader in the international financial sector, Mr. Hamers led ING through a major digital transformation starting in 2013.

In two thematic lectures, Hamers will reflect on the digital transformation of the financial sector and his role in the acquisition of Credit Suisse. This event offers participants the opportunity to engage with a prominent leader in international banking and to gain current insights at the intersection of technology, strategy, and leadership.

In the first part of the session, Ralph Hamers will discuss the impact of digitalization and artificial intelligence on financial services, as well as the strategic choices involved. How is AI reshaping the foundations of banking? What strategic decisions are necessary to remain at the forefront in a rapidly changing market?

In the second part of the program, Ralph Hamers will reflect on his time as CEO of UBS, with a special focus on the acquisition of Credit Suisse in 2023 — a pivotal moment in the Swiss banking sector. How did this complex transaction come about? What does decision-making under pressure require from leaders? A unique opportunity to hear the behind-the-scenes story, straight from the source.

Both blocks will consist of an interactive lecture: Ralph Hamers will first share his vision, followed by an in-depth Q&A session.

Ralph Hamers is a prominent Dutch banker and executive with extensive international experience in the financial sector. He began his career at ING, where he held various leadership positions and was ultimately appointed CEO in 2013. In 2020, Ralph Hamers joined UBS, one of the world's leading wealth management firms, where he served as Group CEO. In this role, he was responsible for steering the organization and played a key role in the acquisition of Credit Suisse.
