prof. dr. Tinka van Vuuren

Be loyal to your future self

For a sustainable career, good work ability, high levels of vitality, and high levels of employability are of the essense, according to prof. dr. Van Vuuren. With the start of the new year, reflecting on your career choices, as well on how to increase your health and vitality often occurs. With the coming of age this might be even a more important topic, both for the individual as for organisation. Due to a growing ageing workforce, Dutch organizations must rely increasingly on the health, motivation and skills of older workers. Yet, prof.dr. Van Vuuren argues it's never too early to start to focus on your vitality and employability.

Employability is about having the capability and adaptability to gain initial employment, maintain employment and obtain new employment if required. Labour market developments stress the importance of enabling older and younger employees to stay employed by enhancing their sustainable employability. It also involves measures aiming to enable workers to work longer and function optimally. This lecture Prof.dr. elucidate on the important factors for gaining or maintaining vitality, for now, the coming year and over time together with useful tips and practices.

Prof. dr. Tinka (Catharina Veronica) van Vuuren (1959) was an endowed professor in Strategic Human Resource Management, i.e. Vitality Management at the Open Universiteit of the Netherlands. Her research interests include sustainable labour participation, employability, workability, vitality, work and health policies, sickness absence, job insecurity, active aging and mobility. Between 2006 and 2024, she worked also as an organisational psychologist for Loyalis, a brand of a.s.r., a Netherlands-based insurance company. She advises and conducts research for public and private organisations.
