Sport & Motivatie
The sport of padel has rapidly taken the Netherlands by storm and is now one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and worldwide. There are several reasons behind padel's popularity. It's relatively easy to learn and very accessible, regardless of your age, physical condition, or experience with racket sports. It's also a social sport, both on and off the court. Padel is highly versatile, combining elements of tennis and squash, and incorporating the best of both worlds. It's no surprise then that padel is widely seen as a sport of the future. One person who knows all about this is Norberto Nesi, a pioneer of padel in the Netherlands. Born in Argentina, he discovered padel at the age of 15 and developed into a passionate player and coach. In 2004, he moved to the Netherlands and decided to use his experience and enthusiasm to promote the sport in his new home. In 2011, Nesi co-founded the Dutch Padel Federation (NPB) together with Abel Gilsing. In 2016, the NPB merged with the Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association (KNLTB). Under Nesi's leadership, padel saw explosive growth in the Netherlands, with over 150 clubs and 400,000 active players today. In addition to his administrative work, Norberto Nesi remains active as a coach and was instrumental in the founding of the Padel Association Rotterdam. His passion for the sport and his organizational talent have firmly put padel on the map in the Netherlands. During his presentation at the IGC, Norberto Nesi will share his insights into the rise of padel in the Netherlands and his role in that journey. His story is an inspiring example of how passion and perseverance can drive the growth of a sport.
